Marine coverings need to withstand a moving environment
On board, seats face changing conditions depending on weather, sailing and how the boat is stored. Sun, moisture, salt, rubbing and regular cleaning all affect the service life of marine upholstery.
Separate exposed and protected areas
A cockpit bench does not face the same conditions as a cabin cushion. Material, stitching, foam and ventilation need to be considered according to the actual location.
The criteria to compare
- UV resistance and colour stability;
- behaviour around moisture and spray;
- flexibility to follow shapes while keeping comfort;
- care compatible with the products actually used on board.
Do not overlook stitching and foam
A suitable covering cannot compensate for damp, compressed or poorly ventilated foam. Seams and joins must also suit areas where water can collect and where the cushions are handled frequently.
